Most software jobs are shitty, so if everyone who worked a shitty job was unemployable, there'd be only 3 programmers left. As long as you find a way to keep learning, no one's going to care that you worked in a ticket shop 7 years ago. It's not.Īlmost all of us in software have worked at least one shitty job and it doesn't put a scarlet letter on you to have done so. I wouldn't sweat this designation as if it were "A Thing". I've never heard anyone whose opinion I value use it in earnest, except possibly to describe his own job situation. "Code monkey" is usually a term only used by other low-status programmers (i.e., "code monkeys") or by business people who don't understand what we do.
